The American Legion Department of Oklahoma Boys State
Boys State is designed to supplement the information taught in high school civics classes. It is an activity born out of a need for youth training in practical citizenship, leadership, and to instill a working knowledge of the structure and operation of state government.
Boys State has the following objectives: 1) to develop leadership and pride in American citizenship; 2) to arouse a keen interest in the detailed study of government; 3) to develop in the young citizens of Boys State a full understanding of our American traditions and belief in the United States of America; 4) to arouse in the young citizens a determination to maintain our form of government, and, from the Preamble to The American Legion's Constitution; 5) "to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; and 6) to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy."

Where is Boys State Held?
Oklahoma Boys State is located on the campus of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, Oklahoma. This two year residence college has a complete campus including dormitories, library, auditorium, student center and cafeteria, and sports complex. NEO A&M and Oklahoma Boys State have been partners for many years in providing an outstanding experience for Boys State delegates.
Samsung Scholarship
In gratitude for the sacrifices of American service men and women during the Korean War, the Samsung Corporation of Korea has established a scholarship program for the descendants of American veterans. These scholarships can total in excess of $20,000 and are distributed through the American Legion.
The Legion has chosen to use being selected as a delegate to Boys State and Girls State as the first eligibility criteria.
ELIGIBILITY: High school juniors who participate in and complete either an American Legion Boys State or American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program (2010 program year) and is a direct descendant, i.e. child, grandchild, great grandchild, or legally adopted child, of a U.S. veteran who served during a period of war. The scholarship may be used for undergraduate study only at an accredited U.S. college or university.
*SAMSUNG APPLICATIONS: Download the application. They must then be printed out. The Boy's State delegate then takes the completed application with him to Boy's State. The winner is chosen at Boy's State.
