ENCOMPASSES the Poppy Warehouse in Muskogee, The Claims Office in the Muskogee Federal Building and the Service Office at the DVA Hospital in Oklahoma City. These offices source of income is donations from you as Legionnaires through Department fundraisers and the sale of poppies at the warehouse to the Post and Auxiliary Units and SAL Squadrons.

American Legion Department Claims & Appeals Officer and Department Veteran Service Officers

Their duties consist of the preparation, presentation, and prosecution of claims under laws administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs. By being veterans themselves, they have a compassionate understanding of the problems, which confront veterans, widows, widowers, and children. Our service officers know the extent, the meaning and the application of laws that have been passed by the U.S. Congress in the interest of veterans and their dependents. They also know the rules and regulations adopted by the Department of Veterans Affairs to clarify and implement those laws.

The department service officers will apply specialized knowledge in the best way suited to the needs of every individual veteran or other beneficiary who comes to or contacts the office for assistance.

American Legion Poppy Warehouse

Oklahoma is the only state in which a Poppy Warehouse is operated by The American Legion Department for the manufacturing of crepe paper poppy products. We purchase crepe paper (red, green, black), stem wires, floral tape, wood picks, printed labels, ribbons, green dyed lycro wreaths, boxes, printed boards and other supplies from distributors all over the country. We then hand cut the crepe paper into the various pieces and machine sew the necessary parts together and these items are given to the poppy makers. The single, corsage and board poppies are hand made by veterans and their families. The poppy boards are assembled by veterans and their families in the Muskogee, OK area. The poppy wreaths are assembled in the American Legion Poppy Warehouse in Muskogee.
